Explore Changes to Xenite.Org

Xenite.Org in August 2014Xenite.Org, our sister site, has been rolling out some recent upgrades to long-ignored subdomains and we want people to take a look to see what is new.

First, we have been converting the old hand-coded subdomains to use WordPress. That will make it much easier to add new content and update older content in the future.

Second, we have refreshed the design of several subdomain sites. The old template was good in its day but it was not mobile-friendly. Now you should be able to read these subdomains on tablets and smart phones without having to zoom in to see the content.

And, third, we have added some new content.

Huckleberry Wild is Xenite’s classic “gourmet food” subdomain. If you have never enjoyed huckleberries you’re in a for a real treat on what you have been missing. You can buy huckleberries online through the Xenite store or you can find stores, restaurants, and festivals where you can buy huckleberries at the Huckleberry.Biz blog.

The CompuServe IMPs remain the most successful online writers group in history (so far as we know), at least in that more published writers came out of the IMP group than any other online incubator that we know of. In 2006 I interviewed several of the IMPs and created that Website to be a memorial to our experiences. I still hear from other IMPs from time to time. I personally went through the list of IMP Websites and updated the links to the most current locations I could find.

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Movies Portal has been updated and expanded. A lot of work remains to be done. When we originally launched that portal we were thinking we would bring in several volunteers and attract some independent film production companies (as we did with the Pirates of Venus film project (that, sadly, appears to have fallen through). A number of independent film-makers have reached out to us over the years, but we have been helping them mostly through SF Fandom because, frankly, it’s easier to add content to a blog and/or forum than to a hand-coded Website. And we also promote SF Fandom through social media.

SciFi Movies Portal in August 2014We have added sections to the movie portal for Middle-earth movies and Marvel movies; you can watch many hours of video there and read some trivia about the movies. But as I mentioned above, a lot of work remains to be done on the portal. We’ll be adding more content in the coming months.

Xenite.Org itself has a slightly different look now because the old layout was just too crowded. The content is still organized somewhat haphazardly because it will take a lot of work to move some of the evergreen articles out of the blog posts into pages. But we’re making progress.
