New Fantastic Four Menu at Denny’s and Premier Tickets

I wish I could say that Denny’s took me out to Spartanburg to sample their new menu for the upcoming “Fantastic Four” menu but apparently those days are past.  And I seem to be the only blogger who is willing to ask multiple Websites to publish these kinds of announcements, so maybe I am being too cheap.

But let’s face it.  We all grew up on diner-style food (well, in the United States at any rate) and Denny’s is famous for serving diner-style food.  Of course, the nearest Denny’s to me is about an hour’s drive away.  But  I digress.

Superhero and fantasy movie franchises are a huge deal these days and Denny’s obviously knows they can tap into the popularity of these themes with inspired menu offerings.  I have not tried the menu but I will probably make a special trip to that almost local Denny’s to give it a shot just as soon as my doctor clears me for adventurous dining.  What I can tell you is that I was blown away by the Hobbit menu in 2012.  Of course, being served by the corporate chef who designed the menu makes it all the more a worthwhile experience.

You know, I kind of like lava cake when I can get it, but I have this image of Jon Favreau crushing lava cake with his hand (you had to see the movie “Chef” to understand the reference).  I am sure Dr. Doom would zap it with a laser bolt or something.

But the point is that you have to leave a little room for the dessert if you want to experience the full fantastic effect of the promotional menu.  And, of course, Denny’s in their nefarious evil scheme have packed the menu with enough food to force you to come back more than once to try everything.  It’s almost like you live in Latveria and get a slight taste of freedom in New York City before Victor von Doom snatches you from your seat … oh, wait, this is about the upcoming movie.  To be honest, I haven’t seen it yet (because it opens in theaters on August 7).  Is Latveria even in this thing?

Denny’s is gambling on the success of the rebooted franchise, which I think is a bold move because, frankly, I was a big fan of the original Fantastic Four starring Jessica Alba and some science fictiony guys (I think Captain America was in the cast somewhere).  Me, personally, I’ll never be able to forget Sue Richards running down the street with a crowd of people behind her.  But this was about a menu, right?  So let’s take a look at the Human Torch Skillet.

Mama mia.  If that sausage is as good as the Hobbit sausage was you won’t be able to get enough of it.  And for Kate Mara fans (she is the new Invisible Woman) there is the Invisible Woman Slam (which is appropriate given what Sue Storm can do with her telekinesis).

Yes, boys and girls, that looks like real fruit in and on them pancakes.  I’ll take my eggs scrambled with a bit of cheese in them, thank you, but the pancakes look just fine from here.  Just fine.

Okay, so did Denny’s really talk me into promoting a menu I haven’t tried yet?  Well, there’s a little more to the story than that.  The movie premiers on August 4 and you have until July 19 to sign up for a chance to win a trip for two to the premier.  Just visit http://www.dennysfantastic4.com/ and check out the details.

You can also expect to see TV spots and I am pretty sure they will upload some videos to the Denny’s Channel on YouTube (probably starting around July 1).  Tying diner food into a (potentially) major movie franchise is not just about serving the food; it’s also about creating the experience for the audience.  I think Erwin Penland, the PR firm handling this promotion, kind of groks the whole fan thiing.

I just wish they would invite me back to Spartanburg to sample the next menu rollout.  It would be all kinds of cool, you know?
