Giacchino is a great composer. Very versatile too - seems to be able to turn his hand to a huge variety of styles and make each one unique. Different to a lot of composers where you always know it's them. Take James Horner, for example - he's very good but a James Horner score sounds like a James Horner score.

Talking Re: Star Trek XI Composer Will Score "Carter of Mars"

Yep, he's had an unusual career too, starting out as a prolific composer for video games. J.J. Abrams noticed/heard his score for the Call of Duty games, and got him to do Alias, when then led to Lost, where he won the Emmy, and moved into feature films too. His Lost score really is remarkable - you remember most the weird, atonal percussion bits that are reminsiocent of Jerry Goldsmith's score for Planet of the Apes, but then he would surprise you with this lush symphonic string arrangement (much like the final moments of Kirk's father in the Trek movie.)

Jerry Goldsmith, too. On one hand I like that, on the other something new is good, as well.

The 'Call of Duty' work was good. I'll have to investigate this further.
