Mania has a hilarious top ten list featured on their site right now, 10 Awful TV Theme Songs You Can't Get Out of Your Head. It's got not one, but two Trek-related series, with the Shat's TJ Hooker coming in at #8!
I have to say, though, if this were my list, I'd have Walker, Texas Ranger at #1. That blasted theme song will forever be embedded in my brain. And how Cleopatra 2525 didn't make the list is beyond me! ![]() I have to say it's a pretty good list! Check it out: 10.Walker, Texas Ranger 9. TJ Hooker 8. Knight Rider 7. Spider-Man theme from "The Electric Company" 6. Land of the Lost 5. Small Wonder 4. The Greatest American Hero 3. Firefly 2. Enterprise 1. Wonder Woman To see the list, along with videos of each theme song, click here. |

Intresting that all of these were either genre shows, or had some genre connection like Shatner. Or was this specific to genre shows?
Walker was indeed pretty rough. Most of those I don't remember. I loved the Cleo song though, and didn't mind Enterprise, I just thought it was sort of sappy and syrupy, but certainly didn't hate it.

Re: Enterprise Theme Ranks #2 On Annoying Theme Songs
Mania is almost entirely about science fiction and related genres, as I recall.
I, personally, love the Enterprise theme song and I think it was completely apt. The sacharritic orchestrations that were so common on other Star Trek shows eventually got on my nerves. |

Re: Enterprise Theme Ranks #2 On Annoying Theme Songs
I complained more than my fair share initially, of course, but I came to like the opening sequence for 'Enterprise', song and all. I liked all the other Trek theme songs, too, though.

Re: Enterprise Theme Ranks #2 On Annoying Theme Songs
Oh, they were good enough for television show themes. I just really enjoyed the change with Enterprise. I thought the theme song was refreshing, and the opening sequence was especially hopeful.

I did really like that connection of all the different ships called Enterprise, and how recognizable space projects from our lifetime were the immediate predecessor to the story we were about to see (as opposed to something vastly farther into the future.)

Re: Enterprise Theme Ranks #2 On Annoying Theme Songs
I believe that I also fell into the category of people who liked the new theme song. I’m sure I posted something about it somewhere around here. I recall the debates that raged over the change, because if there’s one thing fanboys love/hate and love to hate, it’s change. But I did think the song was appropriate to the show, even if I didn’t like the show.

Re: Enterprise Theme Ranks #2 On Annoying Theme Songs
I like the show, but the theme song was horrible - so horrible it almost single-handedly kept me from seeing the show for a long time. I would applaud TPTB for choosing to do something different from the usual dull generic anthem-like tunes of Trek opening credits, but "Faith of the Heart" was just terrible, it sounded like an 80s sweet metal ballad. Maybe it wouldn't be that bad if the singer wasn't so awful. If it weren't for the song, the credits could have been good - the sequence of images was well done.
On the other hand, the opening credits & theme for In A Mirror, Darkly were awesome.

Re: Enterprise Theme Ranks #2 On Annoying Theme Songs
I liked that as well, it really set the tone for the episode. It would have been funny if they had the usual theme for that episode, though, it'd have been a complete misfit!

Yes, the theme did match the theme -- thus making it a well-themed theme show.

Re: Enterprise Theme Ranks #2 On Annoying Theme Songs
The theme for 'In a Mirror, Darkly' was a top-notch piece. And if you are a fan of the Mirror Universe as I am, then it's that much better. The Empire was an interesting plot element.
Oddly, Bakula seemed to e struggling with his character, though. He's an accomplished actor, but his Imperial persona seemed very awkward, even campy. The rest of the cast was solid. Linda Park seemed to enjoy her role as the conniving mistress and Empress-in-the-making.

Re: Enterprise Theme Ranks #2 On Annoying Theme Songs
Would have liked to have seen more, I believe they had more planned if the show had another season, but it was not to be. As I've said elsewhere, the Enterprise Mirror Universe could be solid gold for a straight to DVD feature, if Paramount ever chose to exploit the franchise in that manner.
