"Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides" info

Our older information threads are old and I wanted to start over with a fresh thread.

Coming Soon confirmed that the movie will indeed be released in the summer of 2011 (Disney had a big announcement, including Johnny Depp in costume and everything).

The film's official title is "On Stranger Tides".

They don't actually have much information, although Rob Marshall is still slated to direct and screenwriting credits are listed for Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott.

It remains to be seen whether Geoffrey Rush will return as Barbossa. He did indicate last year he would like to do so.

And maybe the story will have something to do with the Fountain of Youth, as suggested at the end of the third movie -- or maybe not. The characters could have moved beyond that event (or, worse, the fourth movie could be a prequel -- let's hope not).

"Stranger Tides?" Hmmmmm...time will tell. I look forward to learning more about their intentions for the script, especially what they have in mind for a leading lady.

That seems like a very odd name for the film...although, it could make sense if it has something do with the Fountain of Youth, but if it doesnt well...I guess as it has been said, only time will tell.
It will be interesting to see as time goes by, who will end up being cast in the film if everyone else isnt gonna be a part of it, cept for Rush-and so far even he hasnt been completely confirmed...
With where part 3 left off, and even at the very end of the credits, the things we see- they could take this film into a few different directions but I hope they still stick with what made the other's what they were, ontop of it all being based on a ride in a park.
I didnt see the official announcement or hear a thing about it anywhere and I have tried to keep my eyes and ears open about it, so where-ever you are getting yer info Michael, god bless ya!

Rumor or fact, I guess its wait and see time.

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- Johnny Depp says he may not star in a fourth "Pirates of the Caribbean" film after all, now that Dick Cook is no longer boss at Disney.

Total Film quoted Depp as saying he initially agreed to play loopy, scene-stealing pirate Jack Sparrow in the movies at Cook's behest and is reconsidering his position now that Cook's gone. Depp said he is waiting to see the screenplay before deciding whether to commit to the project.

The Los Angeles Times reported during the weekend that Cook was leaving the company after 38 years because the studio told him it "wanted to go in a different direction."

Well, that's a big ouchers! If there is no Johnny Depp, then there wont be a film. I can understand none of the other actors wanting to come back but there is only ONE captain Jack and only ONE person who can play him.
I hope Johnny decides to do the film despite Cook leaving- if they should decide to make a 5th film, well then perhaps he could turn the reins over then, but the film wont be the same without him no matter what happens that far down the line.
For the sake of the franchise, I hope Johnny says yes to the 4th film.

It will be interesting to see how many other projects hit the skids because of the executive squabbles at the company Walt founded.

I think they'll end up playing nice. Another Pirates movie is the closest Disney has to a sure thing in the money making department.

Plot revealed??? Perhaps ....... Well kind of.

It’s less than a month since Johnny Depp announced the title to Pirates of the Caribbean 4, and even then Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides was being compared to the book of the same name, a possible plot source perhaps?

At the time it was largely considered speculation, but now Tim Powers the author of “On Stranger Tides” has been able to reveal that his book will indeed provide the basis for the fourth film in the popular Pirates of the Caribbean series.
His book tells the story of a group of pirates on a quest for the Fountain of Youth, the same Fountain that Captain Jack announced he was going to find at the end of Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End.
But of course the chances are high that by the time Disney present us with Pirates 4 very little will remain of the source material. In fact, Powers seems to share the exact same sentiment.

I hope Geoffrey Rush is included. He said last year he wanted to be part of a POTC IV. IMDB has no hard information yet, though they say that Rush is "rumored" to be in the movie (as is Penelope Cruz, who now seems to be confirmed).

Depp And Keith Richards Star in Film, Seek Jagger to Co-Star:

"Keith Richards is set to co-star in fourth installment of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ flick, ‘On Stranger Tides’, along side actor Johnny Depp.
Richards will star as the father of pirate Captain Jack Sparrow, played by Depp.
Depp has been working closely with the Disney production company in order to continue with the ‘Pirates’ film series. It is rumored that Depp is trying to recruit fellow Rolling Stones member Mick Jagger for a role in the popular film. Depp has said that if he accepts the role, Jagger will be portraying an elder pirate similar to the role Richards plays.
The movie is set to begin filming sometime this summer. Fans have cited Depp as being a “sell out” for continuing the film series. The actor however, simply smiles and states that he is happy in reprising the role of Captain Jack.

True. They should have called him a sell-out for doing the first movie!

I'm going to ignore that little jibe, RobRoy.

I'm very, very happy to see that Barbossa will be back. This franchise works so well with Jack and Barbossa acting as foils against each other.

But I don't want to see Barbossa become the blood-thirsty barbarian he was in the first movie. They toned him down and made him more likable in the third film and I really, really enjoyed that Barbossa better. It was a sign of growth in an otherwise fantastic fantasy character.

More a jibe at the “fans” rather than you or Mr. Depp. I’ve been a fan of his work since “21 Jump Street” (which is now available on Hulu). He’s always been rather unconventional, and striving for his work to speak for itself. So if someone wants to say that he’s selling out, then they should have cried foul when he did a big tent movie in the first place. Not when he’s doing the fourth in a series with a character that he created, is very unique, and clearly enjoys playing.
