In case you missed the news, if you have a GeoCities account, you will lose access to your site (and all its content) forever on October 26, 2009.
I strongly recommend that people move their GeoCities accounts NOW. You can read more about Yahoo!'s decision to shut down the service here. If you know of any GeoCities sites that you have enjoyed through the years, you should try to contact the owners and see if they are aware of the shutdown. If you have sites that link to GeoCities accounts, try to update the links. Don't leave your visitors with dead links. |

I meant to post something here a long time ago and forgot to.
Many GeoCities accounts have been archived on ReoCities.org. If you have a Website that links to old GeoCities pages, you should check to see if you can find those pages on ReoCities. I advise updating the old links. Another way to salvage those links would be to look for the pages on Archive.Org (the Wayback Machine). It's perfectly acceptable to link to their archived copies of pages. I have done this many times. |
