Talking 2.09 "Dark" (spoilers) - rerunning weekend of 7/31

Jolene Blalock makes her first appearance as Sister Nicci in this episode, and this sister is not quite what she claims to be,as Richard finds out when he arrives at the Palace of The Prophets. In the meantime,Leo,the new Seeker, learns to adjust to his new title, but not before another sister attempts to kill him. Rather than revealing why she was trying to do him in, the sister forces the sword into her throat, severing her windpipe and killing her. Zedd realizes that something is wrong in the order and Richard is in danger. The foursome split up,with Kahlan & Cara trying to pick up Richard's trail and Zedd & Leo continuing the search for the Stone of Tears. Back at the palace,Richard discovers Nicci's true intention, which is to keep him from giving the stone to the keeper, and gets the help of another sister to prove it. Once he leaves, a new prophecy appears on the wall of prophecies and this one has to do with Kahlan:as long as her pure heart beats, the keeper is doomed to fail! The compass bring the foursome back together and Kahlan realizes it's leading them to Richard.

My thoughts: I can't wait for Richard to be reunited with Kahlan and the others. Something about all of this just doesn't feel right. No offense to Leo,but he just doesn't seem like a Seeker to me. Once they all learn of the new prophecy(and that may happen in the next episode)Kahlan will be under constant watch to protect her-so they better watch out for Nicci!

They seem to be following the books somewhat roughly, although I sense a few elements have been taken out of sequence.

Interesting.
I had a feeling that Richard and Kahlan were not together. And there’s a new prophecy?!?! You know I am really starting to dislike my network. Thanks for posting.

I am pretty sure the prophecy is based on what happens in the books. I would not blame the network for that.

No, I think she means she blames her network for not airing the show. Kea's been around since the days of Studios USA - I think she realizes her local network doesn't write the episodes.

OK, this question is for Boomstick and Boomstick only - did you recognize the actress who played the Prelate (i.e. the Mother Superior of the Sisters of the Light?)

To view, use your mouse to select the text:
It was Voice! Elizabeth Hawthorne, who has finally begun to play actual older roles, instead of "women of a certain age" who're still sexy, e.g. Blanche Dubois, Mrs. Robinson, etc.)

Haven't had a chance to watch the two latest episodes yet, but I recorded them, so I'll sit down and see them sometime this week.

In addition to being busier than I expect to be this winter, I made the mistake of picking up Leverage season 1 on DVD this weekend, a couple Bogart movies, and Raymond Chandler's novel The Big Sleep. So I'm loaded with distractions. So much television, so little time.

Look forward to seeing Elizabeth Hawthorn, though. I think the only time I've actually seen her is from some pictures you posted on the Cleo forum.

Well, you saw her in the Cleo finale right, when Voice finally revealed herself?

Other places you could have seen her would be as the over-sexed Queen Omphale in "Hercules and the Lost Kingdom," as the tv reporter in "The Frighteners," and as the housekeeper in the first Narnia movie. And some still pics in this thread.

I didn’t know she was in that!!! I am going to have to rewatch that again.

I always forget that we saw her in the last ep of Cleo…its just I was not a huge fan of the end ep. I mean it was ok but with the flashbacks and a slight cliffhanger ending…no thank you!!! LOL!!!

Cool Re: 2.09 "Dark" (spoilers)

Ok, it's LotS catch-up weekend for me! Pretty good episode, by my standards, here's a few thoughts:

I like the new seeker Leo, specifically because they've set him up as a love interest for Cara, who could stand a little character development. The whole tough Mord Sith thing is cool, but it's time for her to start getting a little more comfortable and human. She's been with the heroes for a while now, I think this could be the final piece that really makes her one of the group. Unfortunately, it seems obvious that Leo is a small piece in some larger plot, and he won't be around for very long.

Prophesy, prophesy, prophesy. I'm beginning to see that this is the price for keeping the show episodic enough for the casual viewers. It's beginning to feel a little lazy for me, but it's not too big a deal, I guess. I just can't help feeling like the writing staff could occasionally come up with some motivations to drive the plot along other than some new prophesy.

Jolene Blalock was as really quite good, I thought. I've always liked her since she was on Enterprise, but I've never found her that versatile as an actress. To be fair, though, I haven't seen any of her non-genre projects. Anyway, great job here. I'd say she's improving. Now that the cat's out of the bag concerning Sister Nicci, I'm looking forward to seeing what she does in the next episode.

With Richard only spending one episode with the Sisters, I'm assuming we'll only get an episode or two more out of Leo. As I said, that's a bit of a shame, I actually like the potential.

Alright, on to the next episode! I'll post my thoughts on it later!

And disturbingly she also played Herc's mum in Season 1 And Jocasta in the ep Rebel With a Cause.

Definitely an improvement on the previous episode. It certainly kept me guessing who was the true villain until towards the end. I thought Ricky was maybe being a bit rash about leaving the Sisters. The fact that the Keeper's servants were trying to get him to leave would surely add clout to the prophecy?

I'm really surprised they actually got a new Seeker. Leo seems a nice guy but I can't see him and Ricky being co-Seekers. I smell doom for him.

His come-on line about chipmunks was only marginally better than Anakin Skywalker's sand routine but it seemed to work for Cara. These Mord Sith must be very sheltered.

Funniest moment: Kahlan appearing as if from nowhere to tease Cara for laughing.

That was a nice moment, especially since they're usually disagreeing over something.
