Literary estate?
Can anyone comment on the dispute over the Lady's literary estate? The question came up in another forum and I thought I'd check for updates.
TIA.

Re: Literary estate?
The case was closed, but may end up back in court.
Please continue to wait. Don't assume that things are settled until they are settled. When things are finalized, I'll try to let the site know.

Oh. I forgot about those. There was some silly thing going on among Tweeners. There were competitions to see who could post the most times. So many posts were just
"Hi!" That the super-moderators had to impose the length rule. Paul - what does "TIA." stand for?

Re: Literary estate?
To my knowledge, the estate went through the equivalent of probate and the literary estate was awarded to one of the two parties involved. It was appealed to the Tennessee Appeals Court where it is still in consideration. Hopefully, it will be decided in the next 1-2 months, and her literary heritage can move forward, but that depends on the two partiers involved.

Sorry, I obviously have a fat finger, and hit both keys. I imagine this has been tiring for both parties, no partying for either once it is over - just relief.

Re: Literary estate?
I'm a bit concerned about these "new" items. What happens if Sue's case fails? Has she been negotiating with a publisher before winning her appeal?
Hopefully this will all be over by September. It has been a long process for all involved.

Re: Literary estate?
I am posting this to the forum for Victor Horadam.
"I feel it is important to reply to some misunderstandings regarding Ms. Norton's literary estate and the current 'confusion'. I want to make it clear that I don't feel it is appropriate to discuss the details of the case, nor to try to support my position with what I feel are legitimate reasons as presented in the first trial. I will defer that to the court system in Tennessee. The decision of the Appeals Court is expected by all involved at any time now, but has not been delivered yet. I trust them to come to a correct decision, and to affirm Ms. Norton's wishes. I have personally received several nasty emails in the last few days from parties unhappy with some statements in the AP article released earlier this week on CNN, and by multiple other newspapers and agencies. Realize that the only part of the article I am responsible for are the direct quotes attributed to me. The interview was many months ago; and the reporter wrote the article from her own research and presented that information. While I do not agree with all she wrote, I think she tried to present this in an unbiased fashion. I also realize that some have stated that I was not a long time friend of Ms. Norton. I first corresponded with her almost 25 years ago, and feel that I became a good friend many years ago, both through correspondence and through multiple physical visits to her. She certainly mentioned many of you to me over the years. While many of you may have an opinion as to how this case (via the Appeals process) should be settled, I would ask you to keep an open mind and wait for the learned decision of the court as they interpret Ms. Norton's intent as expressed in the last two wills and the case presented to them. Thank you for your consideration in allowing me to post this to the site. To clear up one more misunderstanding, I would like to state that "others" have nothing to do with my case. No one deserves accusations regarding the current estate matters. V Horadam " The AP news article, as sent to me (Irene) by W. Richard Frahm, can be read at. http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/articl...type=printable

Re: Literary estate?
This morning, I received an Email from Sue Stewart, and I will be editing this for posting on our site. I will then send her the edited version, for her approval, before posting it here.
Please note: I also edited Victor Horadam's message before posting. I am responsible to this form, and want important information posted. But, I can not, and wil not allow information that is incompatable with the forum policies. Hopefully when the final decision is made on the case, more of Ms. Norton's work will appear back on the book shelves. Until then you and I will just have to be patient, and go back to our book shelves and read the fine stories.

Re: Literary estate?
Having known Andre since the early 1970's, I can only say I am very upset and disappointed at the acts of some of the people out there who feel that knowing Andre for a long time entitled them to anything except the friendship of one of the most unselfish, caring, and talented people I have ever known. Is this what people do to show their admiration and friendship? Squabble over the estate when she passes away?
The letters Andre wrote to me up until her death spoke no ill of anyone, and heaped a lot of praise upon the lady that took care of her like family until Andre could stay with us no longer. I remember reading about all the work Sue put into refurbishing her home, and of the view of the Old Man tree in the yard and everything. What Andre gave was out of the goodness of her heart, whether it was a box of autographed books by her and other friends, tapes of TV shows from her library when it dissolved, trinkets, keepsakes, or pictures. She did it because she cared about you. One of the greatest honors was having Dragon Blade dedicated to me because she liked the design of the Dragon Blade I sent to her. I'm sorry, but I am totally, utterly, and absolutely disgusted by this whole affair. Andre's memory shouldn't be sullied by these actions. No true fan or friend of hers would ever think about doing it. And that's my take on it.

Re: Literary estate?
Posted for Sue Stewart
"First and foremost, I'm not sure as to why I could not be reached for comment on this article. There was no miscalculation or accident involved in the writing of Andre Norton's will. The trial record was quite clear. A miscarriage of justice has occurred here in Murfreesboro, one which I hope will be corrected by the Appellate Court. And lastly, I did not receive $250,000 from Andre. This particular amount, referred to in the article, was monies used to build Andre's fully handicapped apartment onto my home and expenses toward her care. I have nothing to hide and my statement is supported by the trial court transcript. Sue Stewart "

Two months have gone by with no word. Has the court given any hint when they expect to resolve this dispute?
