Post "Born of Hope" - Tolkien fan movie by film professionals due in 2009

Born of Hope is a prequel to the fantasy novels and tells the story of the Dúnedain, the Rangers of the North, before the return of the King.

The 60-minute film, which will be released on the internet next year, focuses on Arathorn and Gilraen, the parents of Aragorn, from their first meeting through a turbulent time in their people's history.

I don't know anything more at this time, but the characters are mentioned in The Lord of the Rings so I would think that Tolkien Enterprises would have licensed the movie.

Maybe.

Re: British film studio producing Arathorn and Gilraen flick for 2009

Wasn't there a film called Anarion or something that also tried to tie into Middle Earth. I seem to recall some posts about it around the time that LOTR was announced.

I'll have to dig through the past threads and see if I can come up with anything. It might have been pre-crash.

Re: British film studio producing Arathorn and Gilraen flick for 2009

RobRoy, I believe you're thinking of "Elessar", which Sam Balcomb proposed to make a few years ago. When he found he could not obtain a license to do so, he put together the "Ancanar" project. They actually filmed a low-budget version of the movie but were hoping to create a better version with additional funding.

Unfortunately, I think Sam ran into legal issues. His production company was (at the time) using the name Elemental Films, which was also being used by an older production company in Scotland. This year the Scottish firm completed the process of asserting its exclusive right to use of the name Elemental Films, disavowing any connection to Sam Balcomb in the process.

Balcomb's company has been renamed Rainfall Films but though they have produced a number of projects, I'm not aware of any renewed energy for the "Ancanar" film.

"Ancanar" was to be set in a Beleriand-like world, where a human warrior who survives a massacre seeks out the last city of the Elves (a lost city).

It's not a studio picture at all -- it's a fan film! (Pretty amazing for a no-budget fan film, isn't it?!)

I hope they have the same actor portray Arathorn as the first lotr movie so there won't be confessed people.

Interesting. Not as impressive or as ambitious as "The Hunt for Gollum" but that's only based on what I saw in this trailer.

Re: "Born of Hope" - Tolkien fan movie by film professionals due in 2009

I think "The Hunt For Gollum" has to be more closely tied to the Peter Jackson drama, if only because the events are more closely related to the events of the Jackson film.

"Born of Hope" deals with an earlier timeframe and it could be argued that it's not really concerned with the broader canvas of Middle-earth.

I think "Born of Hope" is more concerned with character and less with drama.

Thanks for the new link.

You embed videos by using the cyoutube syntax. So it would look like this:

Code:
[ cyoutube=.... ]Text you want to use as title [ /cyoutube ]

Hopefully that renders well.

You would, of course, omit the spaces trailing the square brace characters.
