It is a Biblical quotation, from a parable I think.
The song was an attempt at a joke. Apparently it was somewhat wide of the mark.
The Kinks were an influential British "beat combo" of the sixties and early seventies. With "You really got me!" they can be given the credit for ushering in heavy-rock. However, their output was mostly concerned with wry social comment attached to some catchy tunes these include "Days," "Waterloo Sunset," "A Dedicated Follower Of Fashion,""David Watts" and "Victoria." They influenced later bands such as The Jam (who recorded David Watts) and Blur amongst others.
