That is a very very good question, given that a couple really could be on the fast track to bigger things. Pine, as a leading man, could theoretically do just like Shatner (or Connery, or Daniel Craig, or Pierce Brosnan in the Bond films) and play unrelated leads in other projects while still playing Kirk as often as he can. And actors like Quinto and Cho might easily accept that they are likely to remain character actors, and this could be a dependable steady gig. Saldana and Yelchin appear to be the ones most likely to develop careers as leading actors on their own, in which case they might become less and less interested in continuing to do supporting roles in Trek.
