a vivid Andre Norton moment

In 8th grade English, we were told that the girls should read a "boy's" book and the boys read a "girl's" book, and write book reports. Fascinated by the Robin Jacques cover, I chose _The Moon Of Three Rings_. All comments on the pervasive and pernicious sexism that's still all too with us aside, even 45 years later, I can still feel the stone of the dungeon as Krip was thrown down into it. It was one of the first times I felt a description in a book so viscerally.
Does anyone else have a vivid Andre Norton moment to share?
