:There have been some interesting search stories lately (no I cannot match let alone outdo them) which prompts me to ask what search services people have found to be the best?

The two that I use most are Amazon.com and Advanced Book Exchange (www.abebooks.com). ABE has member stores worldwide, which can make a difference in the total price you pay once shipping costs are added in.

:What sort of prices should I be expecting to pay? What would you all consider reasonable? I don't care whether its a first edition or not and prefer paperbacks (for shelf-space reasons).

The on-shelf prices that Irene gives (see her separate reply) are about the same in my part of the US -- Northern California. Obviously, the prices are going to be higher when you add in the extra services and shipping costs.

So far, I have not paid more than US$35 all-in for any title that I have ordered through ABE, but prices for similar copies of a given title from different dealers who list on ABE can vary by a great deal -- the copy of Stand To Horse that I just received cost me under US$15 including shipping (in-country) but another dealer was offering the same title with an almost identical description for US$175. Check carefully before you click on the "order" button.

: I cannot remember who was asking for it but I have a spare Puffin (UK Publisher) paperback of Catseye.

That would be RheLynn. I believe she is still looking for this one. Her e-mail address has changed since the last time she posted anything; I'll pass the word on to her.

Welcome back to the Board.

Respectfully,
