Here we go from memory: I believe that Serpents Tooth, published in 1987, was Andre's only 'vanity' press publication.

I think that it was done in honor of a special occasion, but I cannot remember what that was. Then again it could have been one of those special items (Like the "Tab Corbin" limited edition figurine)

Serpent's Tooth is one of two Andre Norton's (I think, I think?) Novella, running only 52 pages. Even the Juveniles are longer (Day of the Ness is 119 pages and Rogue Reynard is 96 pages).

The only other Novella is WERE-WRATH, published by Cheap Street in 1984. Cheap Street was one of the Subscription publishing houses, and luckily for the average reader, the story was reprinted in 1989 in WIZARDS’ WORLDS.

To my knowledge, SERPENT's TOOTH has never been reprinted- and it is a pretty good short story that I read often.

I think that the story with the closest match to the story line is ZARSTHOR'S BANE which was 1978 (A girl & a Cat join a Man & a boy searching for a lost city.)
