So many things to answer.

:Also thanks for the news about "Amber Out of Quaythe" being a starting point for Wheel of Stars,

I don't know which came first (chicken or egg) with "Amber Out of Quaythe" or WHEEL OF STARS. I just noticed a similarity in themes.

: Thanks for the info about the Syracuse University archives, how wonderful to know some of her stuff has been archived away for future fans and scholars,

The Syracuse University Library put out a 'call' for authors to empty attics into the library collection back in 1970. Many authors listened to the call. ESPECIALLY just before re-locating. I had the opportunity to dig through Boxes of stuff (recorded as 16 linear feet) that Andre emptied during one of her moves.

I was several weeks short in getting P.M.Griffin to send her Andre Norton correspondance to the Library. Needing apartment space, P.M. trashed several boxes of stuff. Having two sides to correspondance would have broadened the records.

One of the things I was looking for was some of the 'missing' newspaper articles & confirmation that MAID AT ARMS was by Norton. I found the latter only after figuring out that someone who's signature looked like "Ziedl" from Quebec, had to be Enid Cushing.

:I do agree that after looking at the style of "By a Hair" and "Through The Needle's Eye" that the latter was probably written in late 50's or early 60's and never published.

I don't know that those stories were written at the same time, I just noticed the stylistic similarities.

:Do you think that Andre would remember? or welcome such as question?

I can try to put that in a question to her the next time I write.

:Also what is the process of requesting use of her library in Tenn? Is it by invitation only? Writers only?

I suggest that you read the two newspaper articles that recently appeared in the Nashville and Atlanta newspapers. [Reference available on request, and I think Joe has one up on E-bay.]

The High Hallack Library is a reasearch library. It does NOT contain research about Andre Norton, for that you have to go to my house. The Library DOES contain reference material useful if you are checking the backgrounds, and creating worlds, while writing your own book.

The High Hallack Library includes shelves of Military history (The Robert Adams collection), Books on Customes and Costumes around the world, Books of History and anthropology, Books on People and Places, A few diaries and a large collection of Children's books.

I do not believe that visiting the libary is limited to Authors. Several of us no-author types have had tours. I would check out the link below, for some shots of the library. Follow the path to High Hallack Opening
