: I am one proud daddy!!!! ed

Congratulations, Ed! This is very cool.

I'll see your daughter and raise you one husband. My Marty knows Andre's the greatest writer even without having read any of the books, solely on my say-so. ;)

If she were going to a different school [USF, I think, but don't quote me], she could be up for the Andre Norton Scholarship, sponsored by the Orlando Area Science Fiction Society [OASFiS], who put on Oasis [an sf con] every year. It was this weekend. Yesterday, I was at a panel with Elizabeth Moon, Barbara Delaplace, Jeanette Spencer, & Linda Evans on women sf writers; it seemed as if every word were "Andre Norton." One of the regulars at the con is Rick Wilber, who teaches creative writing at whatever that University of FL is in St. Petersberg. OASFiS meets every month; this would be a good group for her to hang out with.

Oasis will also be during Memorial Day weekend next year; scheduled guests include Jack McDevitt & Tom Smith [filk!]. Other people who usually show up include [but are not limited to]:

Ben Bova, Mike Resnick, Laura Resnick, Don Maitz, Janny Wurts, Owl Goingback, Jack Haldeman II, Barbara Delaplace, Lynn Abbey, Ron Walotsky, Ingrid Neilson, and Mary Hanson-Roberts.

It's a small, friendly con of 300-400, with an excellent art show & a decent con suite [even when they're not run by Irene ;)]. There're also gaming & video rooms, a masquerade, & filking--and lots of writing and publishing workshops. The website is http://www.oasfis.org/

Come on down!

Jerrie
