Andre Norton ForumOT: Introducing Xenite.Org NetROCK! |
|
Posted by Michael Martinez on June 05, 2000 at 16:02:31: Well, as we expand our content at Xenite.Org it occurs to me that people might enjoy listening to some music as they surf the domain. So I've created the first of several Internet Radio channels you'll be able to listen to here on Xenite.Org (and anywhere else you surf off to). Xenite.Org NetROCK may be found at: http://radio.sonicnet.com/mymusiclisten.asp?name=XeniteOrg. Artists I've selected include Yes, The Moody Blues, The Allman Brothers Band, Heart, The Rolling Stones, Fleetwood Mac, Three Dog Night, Procol Harum, America, The Eagles, The Who, Mountain, Gerry Rafferty, Todd Rundgren, Aerosmith, Janis Ian, Joan Baez, Neil Young, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, the Outlaws, Steppenwolf, Alan Parsons Project, Don McClean (I know, he's country now, but he started out as folk-rock), Supertramp, Robin Trower, Steely Dan, the Guess Who, and many more. If all goes as planned, later this week we'll be announcing Xenite.Org NetCOUNTRY and Xenite.Org NetJAZZ. Hope everyone enjoys the experience. We're looking to partner with more streaming media companies in the near future (with a direct science fiction/fantasy angle, but we're still working out the details). BTW -- anyone can create their own radio channel with radio.sonicnet.com's service but if you want any measure of control over the playlist you need to set aside a couple of hours (at least) to go through it. Federal Law (in the United States) imposes severe restrictions on these kinds of Netcasts, and they have to ensure a random mix of music and artists in order to comply with the law. The thinking behind the law is that if you can listen to whatever you want when you want over the Internet, you won't buy the music (and they may be correct). Anyway, Xenite.Org NetROCK represents the kind of music I like to listen to when I read science fiction and fantasy or am writing. I also like jazz and some country, but I'm planning to offer those channels mainly for the benefit of the many people who probably enjoy those types of music more than the rock. If you have specific ARTIST requests for the Jazz and Country channels (I cannot select songs), please send them to Michael@xenite.org (PLEASE DO NOT REPLY TO THE MESSAGE BOARD, thank you). If they are available I'll include them on these channels. Unfortunately, Federal Law also forbids the service from providing complete lists of artists, so there may be some surprise "guest" artists in the various channels. And, in case you didn't know, Xenite.Org has already offered a selection of Internet TV channels of interest to music and science fiction/fantasy and gaming fans at http://www.xenite.org/internet_tv/ (which page was recently redesigned to compensate for some loading problems from the service provider). You need the RealPlayer G2 to view these programs (but it's free to download and we provide a link to RealNetworks on the page).
