: : : Patricia Wrede's Witch World story "The Sword-Seller" has : : : been reprinted. It originally appeared in TALES OF THE WITCH : : : WORLD 3, and has been reprinted in BOOK OF ENCHANTMENTS a : : : collection of stories by patricia Wrede, 1996, Scholastic, : : : ISBN 0-590-97218-9. First Scholastic printing January 1998.

The story in question, has a sword-for-hire, visit a Sword merchant, and spot a sword in the bottom of a pile. He tries to buy the sword, is refused, is offered the sword as a gift, and then forces the seller to take payment.

As in any Witch World story, any process that is that hard will be important later.

The sword-for-hire then agrees to escort a woman to the Abbey at Norstead, and the adventure begins.

*** I didn't remember reading this story before. I guess it is time to re-read TALES OF THE WITCH WORLD 3. *** The book of short stories by Wrede jumps from humor to Sword & sorcery. I haven't gotten to the cake story yet. The style is similar to several other women writers that I like. Hmmm, Judith Tarr, Patricia McKillip, Esther Freisner (when she isn't being 'over the top'). The stories are mostly Fantasy with no Science Fiction in there.

I suggest that you pick this one up at your library, or used book store.

I often buy anthologies and collections for traveling. Then, when reading on plane or train, if I don't like one story, I'll probably like the next one.
