You should be able to find the book in The ABE. I'll put the link below. Try leaving the 'space' in the title.
It is easier to describe what is the same between the book and the Movie (and TV show). The media productions are OK for what they are - Sword and Sorcery. The book is Science Fiction, with the dust of a Western thrown in.
Holsteen Storm is a Navaho who was enlisted as the Beast Master in the war with the Xyx (spelling). The war is now over, and troops are being de-mobilized. The Planet Earth has been distroyed and billions of humans relocated to dipples on many planets. A Beast Master is a human who has trained to work with a team of animals, coordinating their efforts in sabotage and spying. Storm's team consists of an African Eagle, an Cougar and two Mercats. Storm has chosen the planet he wishes to de-mob onto, and it is the home of an enemy. Grandfather, a medicine man of the people, said that this enemy, Brad Quade, had killed Storm's father. Hence, Storm is here to kill Quade. But first he must find him. So he becomes a wrangler for a cargo of horses being imported, meets the native peoples, Norbies, with whom he learns to communicate by hand signs, and the adventure begins.
