I'm still reading this book, and am maybe halfway through it.

About all I can say at this point is that it won't be my favorite Norton book, unless the third part is radically different from the first two parts.

Aetheling sent some of us email. I intend to answer it, but haven't had much time to think about WHY I like to read Andre Norton. I guess one of the reasons is that she doesn't seem to have any gender limitations.

By that I mean, she can write like a man or like a woman. I've never had a problem visualizing her male narrators as men or her female narrators as women. I can't think of any other authors who have such smooth transitions between narrators.

Of course, the immense detail she can put into a story is impressive. Not much seems to escape her notice, it seems. I have found Tolkien-like descriptions in Norton that I once thought I'd never find outside of THE LORD OF THE RINGS. The visualization of setting and world is crisp for me.

Well, don't use that, Aetheling. I'll have to come up with a better explanation for why I read Norton. But that's a start.

Michael
