: Dear Group,: I am unfamiliar with the science fiction genre but I hope to read to my 7 year old son a good first scifi book to stimulate his interest in science fiction. I have heard that Andre Norton's books might be a good starting place. Could you recommend a book from her which might appeal to such a young boy? : Thanks for your help, I'm not sure a 7-year-old would appreciate most of Norton's books which, though favored by many young readers, are still written to a higher reading level. Maybe HUON OF THE HORN would be a place to start. I've noticed that many people read J.R.R. Tolkien's THE HOBBIT to children under 10. If you can find (and afford) a copy of THE ANNOTATED HOBBIT, it comes with illustrations from many translations. Kids like those in addition to Tolkien's own illustrations. Back to Norton, I've heard she wrote a few other books similar to HUON (which is based on a medieval legend) but don't know of any. They would probably be difficult to find. Michael
