: I'm looking for an Andre Norton book that has something to do with some teenagers that are trapped in a building and they can only get food by responding to more and more complicated light displays. They finally get out, and they first thing they run into is a traffic light and they all start to dance. Can anyone help me with the title of this book? The only book that has a sequence like that is STAR KA'AT WORLD. Here, once our pre-teens get to the Star Ka'at world they are housed in a building that they can either get food by thinking it, or by a more technical method. In most of the Andre Norton books - if you are trapped in a building, you better have your own food. I don't know of any book that includes a Traffic Light. Here's a short list of Andre Norton Juveniles: The books that have teen agers. There are also about a dozen Young Adult books, but none of those range a bell with your plot synopsys. BALEFUL BEASTS AND EERIE CREATURES (anthology) DAY OF THE NESS (A boy and his cat help out alien races of tiny beings "Gotcha's" and "Big think") DRAGON MAGIC (4 boys of the same age and nothing in common, ride the bus together. But in the mysterious house there is a puzzle.) FUR MAGIC (A young boy stays on a ranch in the West and conquers his many fears through an adventure as a beaver) GRAY MAGIC (=STEEL MAGIC) (The treasures in a picknic basket turn out to be the forks and knives on an adventure into Avalon for the children.) HOUSE OF SHADOWS - (I'm going to have to re-read this one - cannot remember the plot - Cover has children in a seance with an indian spirit.) LAVENDER GREEN MAGIC (The three children must live in the junk yard run by their grandparents, while their mother takes a residence nursing job and their father is 'missing in action.') MONSTER’S LEGACY (Two teenagers, already members of the adult world, help to save their dutchy, and the son of their duke.) OCTAGON MAGIC (A young girl finds adventure when riding the rocking horse that sits next to the Octagon Doll house.) OUTSIDE (The 'breathers' are breaking down in the domed city. Some day there will be no place for the children, the only survivors of a plague. But outside, what is outside?) RED HART MAGIC (Two youngsters are thrown together to live with the aunt of one, when their parents marry. But they are both unhappy with school, each other, and their traveling parents. Then there is a small house for sale, a peep show, the "Red Hart Inn") RIDE THE GREEN DRAGON (2 children & their parents, stay in a house once owned by a circus. But there are mysterious sounds, and a tale of missing money.) ROGUE REYNARD (From the French. The fox is taught a lesson.) SEVEN SPELLS TO SUNDAY (Two youngsters in a foster home find a mail box in the vacant lot & start to leave letters - what they get as replies have magic.) SMALL SHADOWS CREEP (anthology) STAR KA'AT (An orphan boy finds a large cat - or rather the cat finds him. A girl finds another large cat which conforts her as her grandmother is dying. But these are not ordinary cats, they are ka'ats) STAR KA'AT WORLD (The boy and girl travel to the world of the ka'ats.) STAR KA'ATS & PLANT PEOPLE (The exploration of the Ka'at world searches for the source of the energy pellets.) STAR KA'ATS & WINGED WARRIORS (Once again the ka'ats take to space to search for ka'ats who have been separated from the Ka'at world.) TEN MILE TREASURE (The family moves to the west, to an old Coach station, to turn it into a motel. Is the treasure in a cave, or in the friends they make with the WildHorse children.)
