It seems to me that an ability to read Polish pays of immensly if one looks for Andre Norton books. All of the WW and a fair number of the other stories have appeared in print in Poland over the last couple of years - someone must have liked them lot! Come to think of it to begin with they were one of the dozen or so sci-fi titles around, so maybe that's why.
Also you could get them very cheap 14 pencde per book in some cases (now more like 3-4 pounds)
So there is an incentive - learn a new language you never know which corner of the world will share your preferences as to fanasy.
