: It seems to me that an ability to read Polish pays of immensly if one looks for Andre Norton books.

If you're a Witch World fan, Poland is certainly a paradise. Starting 1992 and ending this year, all of the WW books have been published in my country.

You might, however, have a bit of a problem with learning the language. It's much more difficult than English and has some specific sound English speakers find hard to pronounce (see my name: Maciej, something like ma-chee-ey, the middle part being something between "shee" and "chee"). Not that I want to discourage you

Another thing is that some of the books are poorly translated (sometimes to the point of profanity!), especially if the translator is male (there apparently is some sort of correlation here). But many thanks should be given to Miss Ewa Witecka ("w" is pronounced like English "v"), who's done a really great job and in my opinion it's thanks to her that Andre's books became so popular in Poland.

Maciej

P.S. The cost of andre's books in Poland range from 60p (the older but not so old editions) to 2 GBP(standard price for a book right now)
