: I thought of those, but I consider those anthologies to be special in that the authors are TRYING to emulate Andre. The anthologies appear (to me) to be sold on the premise that they offer Norton-like stories (and they do, to one extent or another, though each author brings something different to the forum as well). What I was TRYING to say.... The authors that have contributed to those anthologies, also write their own stuff. Read their stuff. You'll find interesting worlds, and interesting people. Many of those books contain the feel on an Andre Norton book in that the worlds are rich and the people react in a way that I expect real people to react. As for remnants of previous civilizations....People search our own earth for those same remnants. The mile stones and markers of civilizations rising and falling. Cave paintings, standing stones, pyramids and theories. Life on Mars and the "face" on the moon are two examples of our search for 'those who came before' [The movie 2001 had those lovely monoliths.] [The face on the moon is specific mountain/shadow pattern that our brain/eye connection interprets as a face. Rotating the image 180 degrees, makes it look like a number seven. Now where did I put that article on the likely hood of "7-Up" having reached the moon first and setting up a advertisement.]
