Was the main character excaping from the slums on a planet? She was always teased because she was different. Could be "Forrunner" I don't remember fur "time to re-read" but her skin as I remember was dark and the illustration on the book was black. She had a companion that was like a bat. I'll have to cruse through my 50 or so Nortons at home. Character sounds familiar.: Do you know, if I were reading these posts and hadn't written the first message, I would have to wonder if it was really an Andre Norton book my faulty memory is trying to recall. Cause y'all are lots more familiar with the stories than I am, and none of you have any idea what I'm talking about. Don't misunderstand, I still *believe* it was Norton who wrote it, but logically one has to consider the possibility. . . : Though maybe that's what all of you are thinking, and are just too polite to say so.
