: There have, over the years, been a number of imitators and writers willing to have a go at writing a 'Lovecraftian' tale or two. Who do you think is the best in comparison to the great man himself, and who do you think is the worst? : Certainly one of my favourites would be Ramsey Cambell, a real expert at the chilling and the scary. (He's even been compared to M. R. James.). The worst story that I remember coming across was by Lin Carter, too much explaination, too much attention as to which old one was related to what. Anybody else got some thoughts? The best short Lovecraft style story I have read was one by Stephen King in Nightmares & Dreamscapes. It is well ploted and does not try to go for too much pulling back the curtain value. Where a later writer seeks to fill in blank spots with his own ideas. It also brings the mythos into the late 20th very nicely. Michalak
