: The stories you are after are Bloch's 'The Feaster from the Stars' and HPL's 'The Haunter of the Dark' (one of my favourites).In 1951 Bloch made it a trilogy of sorts with a story called "The Shadow From The Steeple". In Lovecraft's story, the character Robert Blake discovers the Shining Trapezohedron in the old church and meets an untimely end at the hands of Nyarlathotep. Bloch capped this by giving Lovecraft himself a cameo role in "Shadow" and making "Haunter" Lovecraft's "fictionalised account" of what happened to Blake, inspiring Bloch's lead character to then go in search of what really happened. A very amusing and post-modern handling of things. All of these should be in the Arkham House "Tales of the Cthulhu Mythos".
