OK chaps, we all know about the Maiar such as Sauron, Gandalf, Radagast, Saruman, Old Tom, Goldberry, etc, etc but having read The Shaping of Middle Earth (Vol 4 I believe) a Maia came to light whose existance seems to have been forgotten.Tuvo! He was meant to be some sort of ruler over the 'Dark Elves' at the time just before the awakening of Man and it was said that two of his elves discovered the resting place of man and Tuvo was afraid of Eru wrath at disturbing the men before they awoke and so he ordered his elves to avoid that place. But that isn't whats so interesting about Tuvo. It is said that he was the greatest users of magicks (or words to that effect), ever to dwell outside of the lands of Valinor. Now if that is the case he must be TOTALLY gross. Think about those who have 'dwelled' outside Valinor and to that I suppose Mr T meant 'had made their home', or 'spent significant amounts of time' etc, etc. I believe the Valar have to be excluded, since they were on another level to the Maiar, but just think of the others who chose to live away from Valinor. Sauron Tom Bombadil Radagast (OK he was sent at first, but he soon fell from his path and became one with the animals) Gothmog Goldberry I'm sure there are others. but with any books in front of me I can't think of them. Now if Tuvo is 'the greatest user of magicks' east of Valinor, that would mean he had more power than Sauron, or Tom Bombadil. So what the hell happened to him since just before the beginning of the First Age, the only point that he actually shows up? Any thoughts? Padster
