I am not familiar with the BBC edition discussed already, but I have heard two productions which I liked very much. Books on Tape has a set read by a very talented actor who does a one man show of the hobbit -- great voices and songs, truly excellent reading and totallu unabridged as far as I know.

The other I heard some years back was more of a dramatization than a pure reading. I think the production company was called "The Minds Eye". It was quite good as I remember and old Tom was not left out.

I bet old man willow was in league with Mordor btw, what did JRRT know about it any way. :)
