I don't have the time right now to write all I would on Bombadil, but I would like to say this. Elrond is wise, yet he far from all knowing. In matters of Bombadil, I would say that Gandalf is the highest authority on the matter (of all those at the Council). And he says Bombadil could defend it, he just says he would lose it ot something of that matter. I think Gandalf just doesn't argue with the elves who beleive that he can't with stand Sauron because he knows they can't send it their any way so why get into details.Jon
