: An article in my paper recently told me that New Line has gotten permission from Mirimax, who owns the book rights (the names could be vice versa), to make the movies. New Line is reportedly trying to persuade Sean Connery to play Gandalf, a role which he would need a long white beard for but would fill in rather nicely. On the hypothesizing side, maybe Timothy Dalton or Pierce Brosnan or both could be cast. Yes, only Robin Williams could do Bombadil (he could make a British accent in his sleep). No, sadly, I don't think Ford or Pitt or Costner could be cast if they were going for an all-British cast. If they were going British-American cast, by all means include them in, BUT NOT LEONARDO DICRAPIO!!! HE'LL RUIN THE MOVIE!!! IDIOTIC PREPUBESCENT GIRLS WILL FLOCK TO THE CINEMA AND OVERWHELM US LotR FANS!!! DIE, LEO, DIE!!!

The Tom Bombadil part is not that bad. However, people who have very little knowledge of Middle-earth lore will not truly appreciate the story behind Bombadil and the history of the moors.
