: : What the heck was Elrond's problem? For being such a wise and powerful Elven prince he sure seemed to shallow and petty? I understand he had suffered a great many tradgedies, but get real! If you live 5,000 years I would expect a few tradgedies to happen! Why was he so reluctant to aid the heirs of his brother? I would expect him to be leading the assault. He is described as wise and heroic, but I just do not see it that way?: : I'm not really sure what you would want him to do. "The might of Elrond is in wisdom not weapons." He was really in no position to do more than what he did. The days were long past when he could march out with a host of Elves and challenge the armed might of the Dark Lord, which he had done in the past. As for aiding the Dunedain, he was the only person who ever helped the heirs of Isildur. He harboured them in his house, and he raised Aragorn as a son. What more do you want? Good points and well taken. He just seemed very negative, and while he raised Aragorn and a few generations of his family he seemed quite burdeoned. While his lot in life was difficult he seemed not to realize that what quite often actions by the Dunedain as rash it was not. He did not make the connection that men did not have the luxury of hundreds of years to make calculated moves as Elrond and Galadriel had. The Dunedain had the longest lifespan and most were not living past 90 during end of the third age. I believe he saw their actions as rash and uncalculated in his mind. Bottomline Elrond seemed to be a surly old elf who was not openminded to anybody else's strategies. On another note I hope they don't make the elves look like Vulcans or "Flit about" like faeries.
