I'm not sure about many of them, but how about this for Sauron. He gets the ring and totally takes over Middle-earth making it a living hell. But in a short time the Valar come themselves or send Eomwe the most powerful Maia to come kick Saurons butt. Unfortunately much harm occurred to Middle-earth, but in time much returns to normal.

Here's some other names to add to the list Tom Bombadil, Gandalf, Gollum and Cirdan.
