Well I don't know who's "oldest", it's either Tom Bombadil, Treebeard the Ent... or me. I'm 36 and live in Napa Valley CA. I first read LOTR an age and an age ago, when the world was young and you could get an ice cream cone for a quarter. Have you ever read the books out of order? For example reading books 3 and 5 then 4 and 6? What's everybody's favorite part? I really enjoy the part with the hobbits before Bree, and I also enjoy Sam and Frodo's journey to Mordor. I think the weakest aspect of the story is the character of Aragorn. As important as he is, he's the character that is least memorable, probably because so little of the story is told from his perspective, at least in relation to his importance to the whole thing. I think Tolkien was much more comfortable narating through the eyes of a hobbit, or Gandalf or Gimli. Oh well, I still think it's great though. I look forward to reading it to my kids when they get a little older.
