After reading the interview it seems to me that at some point PJ and New Line will have a big bust up about this situation. In an ideal world the film would be made with an attitude of wanting to be as close to the book as possible and stuff the profits. But, this ain't gonna happen and they wanna make bucket loads. I am from England and I do not avoid films that only have American actors in so I can not see an American audience shunning it for the same reason. It seems they think Americans do not have a thought or an opinion of there own. Hope you lot will all prove them wrong. Der.....
: I read in The Express newspaper yesterday, in John McEntee's page that MGM or whoever is behind the Lord of the Rings film wants the character's to speak with American Accents, otherwise it won't appeal to the American audience. This surely has to be rather silly. I can't imagine old gaffer gamgee talking with a New York accent. And anyway Tolkien meant for the Lord of the Rings to be in sort of Olde English, and some of the character's are surely meant to be english e.g. The Men of Rohan and Hobbits themselves. Also Peter Jackson seems opposed to the idea. I'm english myself and don't mean any offence to any american if your reading this but you cannot have all characters speaking with american accents, would it appeal to any americans if it did not have any american accents in.
