: : Umm! I don't want to seem ignorant or anything, but where does : : it say this! In of the the HOME books? Or maybe one of his : : letters? Please tell me cause I just have to read it for : : myself! It seems unfathomable!: Tolkien does discuss Sauron's increase in power through its externalization in the Ring in Letter 131, written to Milton Waldman in late 1951 or thereabouts. He also discusses the diminishment of Morgoth and Sauron's relative power (at the ends of the Second and Third Ages) compared to Morgoth's (at the end of the First Age) in one or more of the essays in "Myths Transformed" in MORGOTH'S RING. : : : : : Padster
: Was'nt Morgoth's power greatly diminished automatically after he left the Valar? Was'nt it also less because of his direct conflict with the Valar and the exertion of his powers in creating creatures like Glaurung and Carachas and then wearing himself out by trying to destroy the creations of others, like his eternal struggle with Aule and his works.
