: Anyway, I have speculated elsewhere that the Ring Rhyme may not have been composed until near or after the end of the Second Age, when it would have become known where the Seven and the Nine went. It's highly unlikely to have been composed soon after the creation of the Rings.

If that is the case, how did the two lines of the rhyme come to be 'engraved' (for want of a better word) on the One Ring?

Was it engraved on the Ring after the rhyme was composed or did someone compose the rhyme to incorporate the words from the Ring? And, if the latter was the case, how did anyone know what was written on the Ring?
