: And lets face it, apart from the whining tone that you 'may' encounter in the southern states of the USA, a soft, unharsh American accent is not that unpleasant. Why are so many people constantly picking on Southern accents here? We southerners have a pleasant accent which is more of a slow warm 'drawl' than a 'whine.' In fact, if we were to use any American accents in a LOTR movie, southern accents would not be that bad of a choice as they are the closest remaining accents to those found in 18th century British Isles. The isolation of the southern mountain communities until the mid 20th century enabled the sppech patterns of old England, Scottland, Ireland, and (especially here in the coal mining communities of TN) Wales to thrive and persist long after they had been diluted in the rest of the US. So maybe a southern drawl might not be appropriate for Aragorn; but it wouldn't be all that bad for a hobbit or most speakers of "the common tounge" of middle earth.
