If he has to use such accents to ensure the success of the film, then the freedom of adaptors is infringed. I agree that Peter Jackson shouldn't have to 'Americanize' his films but not all movie makers have a free hand. I am reminded of the ludicrous situation of the first two 'Mad Max' movies, made in Australia, with Australian money, actors and crew but when they went on worldwide release they had been dubbed into American accents (even here in Britain!). Perhaps Jackson should film his movies with all British accents and, if New Line feel so strongly, they could dub them afterwards.
