: In the description of this meeting Saruman says "For I am Saruman the Wise, Saruman Ringmaker, Saruman of Many Colours!"

: It also says that Gandalf saw a ring on Saruman's finger, just a little earlier. Now we all know that Saruman studied the art of ring making closely and that was probably why the White Council looked to him for advice on the subject. Therefore the ring on his finger was no doubt a ring of power which HE had made.

: This bring sup some rather interesing questions.

: 1) Where did his pick up his knowledge of ring making?

The internet. It's got lore on everthing else!

: 2) Was this ring subject to the power of the One Ring?

No.

: 3) Did Saruman's ring survive the destruction of the One Ring?

Yes.

: 4) Was this ring taken off him by Treebeard when Saruman left Orthanc?

No.

: 5) How powerful was Saruman's ring?

Actually, quite whimpy. It certainly never made me invisible! I could never get any real results from it other than getting my cat to behave a little more properly- it would finally fetch the paper, come when I called, and generally ceased ignoring me. Of course an instruction manual might have helped...

: Now if this ring was separate from the others (which I believe it must have been) then what the hell happened to it. Saruman surely would not have just thrown it away. But it was not recovered when Saruman was killed in The Shire.

Actually it was recovered by Ted Sandyman's aunt. It went through many hands, being given as a yearly gag gift till it came to me (since no one knew it had any magic except Sam & his gang, but we never let him know about it). I'm sure it was Saruman's ring. When you throw it on the bar-b-q you see glowing green letters that seem to translate roughly to
"A new ONE to upset things,
Fear now MY ring,
Gandalf's a fool,
But will now be my tool."

Now, I just had it here somewhere in my smials..... Hmm... Let me look. Where'd it go? Uh oh. The cat's got it! Gotta go! Master Feline needs me!

: Any thoughts out there?
