: I believe Frodo could not see the Three because he did not try to. He did not know they were there, so had no reason to look, however, as Galdriel says, the Three cannot be hidden from the bearer of the One.

I've always thought that comment by Gladriel was an expression of her opinion rather then a simple statement of fact.

: As for the original question I don't know if Gandalf could have taken it from Frodo, but I'm sure Gandalf would have made sure the Ring ended up in the Fire. If that meant killing Frodo, certainly he would have done it. That's obvious, it's either Frodo dies or the whole world AND Frodo die.

I think Gandalf would have easily been able to take the ring from Frodo. (Easy for him, not necessarily for Frodo) The ring basicly only amplified the abilities of the wearer and Gandalf, as a Maia (albeit a cloaked one), would have far more inate power then a Hobit, however unusual.

: Gandalf may have been able to see Frodo. That would explain how Gandalf knew Bilbo had a ring, almost as soon as he got it, way back in Out of the Frying Pan and Into the Fire, in the Hobbit.

I agree with you on this one. I don't think it had anything to do with Gandalf having a Ring of his own, though. Tolkien said Glorfindel had great power over the unseen. (I hope I am remembering the reference correctly) Certainly, this meant he could see the "unseen". At the time, that was mostly meant to refer to the Nazgul, which were "unseen" because of their Rings. How much more power over things unseen would Gandalf had? I think he could see Frodo just because he could.

: Frodo may have been able to command the Nazgul, but it's doubtful. They show no fear of him at any time. It's unlikely he had the power. If he did have the power than I guess he would controll them, since he was the master of the One. I am nearly positive though that he could not control Gandalf. Gandalf is a rival of Sauron. Though Sauron is most probably more powerful than Gandalf, Gandalf would provide a tough match even for the likes of Sauron. It's unlikely a Hobbit, even with the Ring could conquer such a powerful Maiar as Gandalf.

Well said.
