: A good place to start would be volume 5 The Lost Road. It has
: a decent account of the second prophecy of Mandos and the Last
: Battle.

People should keep in mind, however, that this prophecy has nothing to do with the pseudo-history we have in THE SILMARILLION, THE HOBBIT, and THE LORD OF THE RINGS. There is a little more information about it and how Tolkien might have adapted it for the later world in THE PEOPLES OF MIDDLE-EARTH.

Basically, people should just forget about Dagor Dagorath -- too many times it comes up in discussions with the misinformation that it has some connection to the Valar and the heroes of THE SILMARILLION. It is not a part of that book's stories.
