: the land?I don't know of any Silvan Elves who wouldn't use wood. I believe you're thinking of the Green-elves of Ossiriand, who were a quite different group of Elves altogether. The Silvan Elves were those Elves who were found in the woods of Rhovanion by the Eldar. There are numerous indications of the types of food the various Elves ate: breads, cheese, fruits (especially apples), and many of the Elves ate meat, as their delight in hunting indicates. Also, refer to the scene in THE HOBBIT where Bilbo and the Dwarves smell roasting meat in Mirkwood prior to finding the Elves' feast. And, yes, the Elves had farms and gardens, although they are not mentioned in the stories (well, the farms are not). The Elf-women tended to be the growers of food, according to "Laws and Customs Among the Eldar" in MORGOTH'S RING.
