Another thing to note is this. Middle-earth is supposed to be our world many years ago. Therefore, the black people who are "evil" in the lands of Harad, etc., are just coincidence. If we assume the Shire to be England, and Gondor to be a Rome/Italy type thing, than the lands surrounding Mordor must be African in origin. The people living here are not evil (for the most part) they have been deceived and forced into aiding Sauron. It was just a matter of geography. If Sauron had re-emerged in the north, the Beornings might have succumbed to him. See the point?
