: : I always thought of Goldberry as a kind of Tolkien Pin-Up Girl... you know, pretty, innocent, wholesome; not beautiful and terrible like the Elf Queen appeared to the hobbits, but much more down-to-earth and real. What is this "not beautifull", it was wrote that she was beautiful. And many "Fair lady Goldberry", you should wrote very beautiful. I think that you don't have well undertsand the text. And she is not "innocent" because she is happy. She is joyfull and pretty but she can be wise when she need to be wise. See when she speak with the hobbits before going to sleep or when she try to explain who is Tom Bombadil. : mmmmmm Goldberry : : Okay, we had Tom. : : But what or who is Goldberry? Remember, she seems to have quite strong powers too - she is able to make or change weather! : : IMHO, this again could be a support for the idea of Tolkien being Bombadil, Goldberry being Edith. : : Well, just start discussing (not Tom, but the always neglected Goldberry) : : Dr. Ennig I don't know if she had strong powers but you always think that she is a kind of water-spirit or something like that. Why can't you accept that she can be just an Elf-woman. Maybe she has divine blood as Lúthien as ( she is realy Edith Tolkien). But I I realy don't think that she is a lesser spirit out of Valinor in the 3rd age. That's impossible since that it is Ilúvatar who rules Arda since de downfall of Númenor. There are no need for Maiar out of Valinor. And I don't think that she can influence the weather ( and if she had this power, why using that it that day ?).
