The reason I think Scatha lived outside of Angmar is that the dragon is never used by the Witch-king in his wars with the Elves and Dunedain. I doubt it would have lived in Angmar without having had an effect on the Witch-king's policies. Also, since it had captured a Dwarven hoard, it seems unlikely the Dwarves were residents of Angmar. Is there anything anywhere about dwarven settlements in the Grey Mountains prior to the fall of Khazad-Dum ? I dimly remember Gundabad as being a Khuzdul name, did Tolkien write anything about it ? Hope this has not been discussed too often :) (I have been through all the Archives available to avoid too nuch repeating...) Frederic |
