: I'm sorry to be a little sarcastic but I thought you might be
: kind enough to give me a little boost. I am not in any way
: 'imitating' your board!! Having set up a board yourself you can
: appreciate the need for publicity. I just thought you could
: help. You can delete me if you want, and take this as a humble
: apology for sponging off your board!!
: Thankin' ye, KB.

Kelly, leaving aside the issue of whether it's polite to promote your board on my board, please keep in mind that I have not removed your announcement. Nor have I removed other message board announcements in the past.

Of course, when I update it again, I'll also add your board to my TALK ABOUT J.R.R. TOLKIEN site, which is a directory of Tolkien discussion and research on the Web.

I don't mind helping other people promote their message boards, but the White Council was not the resource I created for that purpose. I'm considering putting a link at the top of the White Council to the TALK site, but haven't decided whether to do that yet. I'll list whatever message boards, mailing lists, and chat rooms I learn about there, but I'm very picky about the other types of Tolkien sites that go on the page. So I may not put the link up.

Anyway, good luck with your board, and don't be too offended by my followup. You're not the first person to announce a board here. As long as the White Council doesn't become a message board announcement forum, I don't think I'll be removing the announcements. But I do review them in case someone gives me a reason to remove one.

BTW, folks, general Web site announcements devoted to Tolkien and/or the Inklings are always welcome here.
