: : Actually I had to stop myself from listing almost every band in existence when I wrote that! Nothing particularly wrong with ABBA as a group (though I admit I don't prefer their music) - it's just that their style doesn't seem right for Middle Earth (though it certainly comes galaxies closer than rap would). I think finding the right style of music may give Jackson more of a challenge than getting visual effects right.

: I dunno, I have listened to rap since 1983/'84 and I think it quite appropriate- for Orks (no racism intended). Actually, when I listen to Death Metal, I can very much envision armies on the march- I am not talking Heavy metal- that is ridiculous, but DEATH metal like the danish group Conkra- I think it would be fitting for war and battles- especially the battles between The Army of the White Hand and the Rohirim.

well, we should remember that the movie will better be a success. Some "contemporary" music could help here.
And donīt we forget Led Zeppellin, and theír "Stairway to heaven".
a reinterpretation and new release of this song (or some other Tolkien inspired)would do no injustice to the book, and could help spread the word of the movie.
Also, the DEATH metal idea is nice, but there already is so much ME metal (blind guardians last album, nightfall on middle earth for example
