: : : : Greetings all, I was just wondering about something. We all know what three of the Istari did but I've never read anything about the other two (5 of them came to Middle Eart hif I'm not mistaken).: : I've heard that they went to the eastern parts and tried to set up a cult against Sauron. Could any 1 here tell me something more about what they did?? : : Many thanx. : : LockdaR : Sure, they were known as Alatar and Pallando. They were the Blue Wizards. They went into the East perhaps as early as the second age. THE PEOPLES OF MIDDLE-EARTH tells us the most about them. They were also known as Morinehtar and Rómestámo, which translate into Darkness-slayer and East-helper. : Tolkien originally seemed in uncertain if they had later become evil or had remained good, as it tells us in Unfinished Tales. : But in the Peoples of Middle-earth, he makes is clear that their mission was to circumvent Sauron and try to stir up rebellion in the East against Sauron. : Apparently they had a some huge success and some big-time failure. They failed to destroy Sauron after his downfall in the Second Age, but they had a ton of success stirring up rebellion. Tolkien himself stated, "They must have had a very great influence on the history of the Second Age and Third Age in weakening and disarraying the forces of the East... who would both in the Second Age and Third Age otherwise have... outnumbered the West." (385, Peoples of Middle-earth". : Jon Many thanx for the info. Since I haven't read Peoples of Middle-Earth YET I didn't know all of this. But it is a reason to start reading. Again thanx!! Lockdar
